JOB SUMMARY
The Damper Technician & Fabricator is responsible for the fabrication of damper components, the production of sub-assemblies, major assemblies, component validation & damper tuning. In addition, they will be responsible for helping the motorsports product team complete daily, weekly & monthly projects that are assigned to them by the Damper Dept. Manager. These projects will pertain to the fabrication and construction of custom or motorsports related products, as well as low level department operational tasks.
POSITION REPOSNIBILTIES
While the responsibilities outlined below describe a significant portion of this position’s assigned responsibilities, other functions and accountabilities may be assigned from time to time.
Fabricates, assembles, disassembles & modifies pre-existing components to produce a final product.
Uses hand tools, portable powered tools, and/or operates equipment as necessary.
Loads and unloads previously setup machines to complete a task, E.g., milling machines, lathes, drill presses, hydraulic presses, arbor presses, taps & dies, damper dyno & spring rater.
Works at a bench as a member of an assembly team that constructs and test new dampers.
May repair and service used damper units that fail to meet specifications.
Maintain tolerances determined by part specifications.
Prepares work to be accomplished by studying assembly instructions, blueprint specifications and parts lists, gathering parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials.
Maintains inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, and verifying receipt of supplies.
Converses with engineering and manufacturing personnel as needed.
Coordination of components to be welded or conducts the welding of components themselves.
Testing and validation of components at the parent and sub-component levels.
Analyses damper histograms and performs any necessary damper tuning to ensure product meets specifications and standards.
Completes paperwork and helps maintain proper record keeping.
Serves as a resource for designated projects.
Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Ability to understand & follow oral or written instructions of a technical nature.
Experience with metal fabrication (steel & aluminum).
Working knowledge and experience operating a mill & lathe with precision.
Ability to TIG weld is a plus.
Must be able to read and operate precision measurement tools.
Ability to read & interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.
Understanding of the imperial, metric, and machinist metrology.
Mechanical competency and ability to work with mechanical tools.
Ability to operate & troubleshoot manufacturing & testing equipment problems.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Proven ability to manage priorities and workflow.
Detail oriented.
Ability to work in a team environment or independently.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to operate a PC and Microsoft Suite.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma is required.
Associates or bachelor’s degree in industrial technology, Automotive, or Manufacturing preferred.
Certifications and work experience in Welding, CAM, Industrial Technology or Manufacturing are also accepted.
EXPERIENCE
Two years of related experience in the manufacturing, automotive or machining industry.
*Will be providing on job training of damper technology, application, and manufacturing.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally performed in an environmentally controlled setting, but at times will be carried out in the machine shop which varies from cold to hot temperatures depending on the time of year.
It is regularly required to sit; stand, walk, climb stairs, speak, and hear; both in person and by telephone. Use fingers and hands repetitively to assemble intricate assemblies and to reach with hands and arms. Maybe required to lift up to 70 pounds.
