PURPOSE
Manage efforts for research, analysis, and reporting on industry sub-sectors for a large trade association. Manager, Industry Analysis will develop and manage projects and analyses to understand the business metrics, consumer lifestyles, and adjacent markets that provide opportunities for our member’s businesses and expansion possibilities for SEMA memberships, tradeshows and services.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
- Identify and analyze potentially underserved markets and sectors within the consumer and business markets in and adjacent to our industry.
- Develop internal analyses of association expansion opportunities for:
- Growing membership and tradeshow attendance
- Engagement with SEMA programs and services
- Develop reports to help members grow through understanding:
- Consumer lifestyles that revolve around automotive
- Adjacent industries that present cross-sell or expansion opportunities
- Coordinate internal dissemination and understanding to drive implementation.
- Sourcing and analyzing internal, primary, syndicated, and secondary data.
- Working with internal and external stakeholders to uncover needs and outcomes.
- Tracking association results and engagement with identified sectors.
DETAILED TASKS
Sector Analysis (50%)
- Learn and detail the specialty-equipment market landscape.
- Work with stakeholders to uncover internal and external needs.
- Develop analyses/reports to promote understanding and growth in current association membership categories.
- Develop analyses/reports to assess industry growth areas and feasibility to inform association expansion strategies.
- Work to bridge gap between current growth strategies and association’s long-range priorities.
- Track and report on size, scope, and changes in industry sectors.
- Source new or ongoing information and data sources.
Project Management (25%)
- Manage assignments through project lifecycle in support of industry analysis objectives. Project types may include;
- Business sectors analysis
- B2C or B2B primary research
- Data analysis
- Strategy development
- Serve as primary contact with select project vendors and manage relationship through project delivery.
- Work on the development, formatting, and publishing of multiple published and internal reports throughout the year.
Internal Consultant (15%)
- Act as point of contact for internal ad-hoc questions and requests.
- Work with Director on development of strategic plan for supporting internal stakeholders, such as sales, membership, trade show and Board of Directors.
- Help manage reporting, tracking and response for internal requests.
- Review, update, and oversee department SOPs, tracking documents, processes, and efficiencies of programs and reporting.
- Engage and collaborate effectively with SEMA departments and co-workers as needed throughout all phases of projects.
Industry Knowledge Resource (10%)
- Develop relationships with member companies and industry contacts to further industry knowledge and solicit feedback on current needs.
- Become familiar with and facilitate access to currently available data sources for department projects, including internal databases and external partners.
- Research and source additional data sources (government, trade, financial, etc.) for incorporation into department projects.
- Organize and manage depository and promotion of reports, data references, informational resources, tools, subscriptions, and software.
- Ongoing participation in research, community, and auto industry events and education to facilitate skill improvement and career growth.
Vendor selection and relationship management
- Identify, evaluate, and make recommendations for potential vendor partnerships on an ongoing basis.
- Build and maintain an information repository on potential vendors, contacts, capabilities, product and service offerings and past experiences.
Department Outreach
- Support identification, evaluation, and development of opportunities to elevate the SEMA and SEMA Market Research brands.
- Work with the Education department to schedule and conduct webinars and seminars, as necessary, to promote current projects or topics.
SEMA Show
- Attendance at SEMA Show may require additional skills, including conducting on-site intercept interviews, presentation of project findings, and other duties.
RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to Director, Market Research.
- Collaborate within department on development and execution of studies and analyses.
- Work closely with stakeholders across the organization to implement findings.
PRIMARY SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years’ experience within a management consulting, strategic planning, business analysis, PE/VC, or market research related role
- Project management skills and experience
- Experience sourcing and analyzing disparate data from a variety of sources:
- Industry reports / Market sizing / Trade publications
- Government reports and datasets
- Financial reporting
- Exposure to quantitative and qualitative research projects, including method selection, project design, sampling and data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Experience working closely with senior stakeholders to assess needs, uncover internal insights, present findings, and develop action plans.
- Working knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, etc. for reporting and data visualization.
- Power user of Excel (background with statistics or SQL databases a bonus)
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- 4-year college degree in Business, Economics, or related (Masters or MBA a plus).
- An interest in cars is definitely helpful.

Salary Range: This position's estimated annual base salary is $65,000.00 - $110,000.00. Actual base salary will be dependent on individual’s skills, qualifications, and experience. This role is eligible for 401k Savings plan, Healthcare (medical, dental and vision), and other generous rewards.
