The Motorsports & Industry Communications Specialist (MICS) is the day-to-day public relations liaison for motorsports and automotive performance industry clients. The MICS works closely with internal teams for development and implementation of PR and social media strategies and content. The MCIS is not only a skilled writer and strategist, but also has an intimate knowledge of the motorsports industry to serve clients within the motorsports and automotive performance sectors.
In the day-to-day management of projects on multiple accounts, the MICS writes press releases, blogs, social media posts, prepares work orders and project status reports, proofing, scheduling and set-up of internal project initiation/input meetings, client meetings, assisting with forecasting, billing, tracking, and client contact reports. The MICS is responsible for writing and distribution of news releases and media relations.
The MICS must be available for travel, frequently for 5 or more days at a time, and is expected to work a minimum of 13 weekends based on race schedules.
Develops knowledge and actively seeks current information about the Client's organizational structure, products, services, markets, and distribution networks
Industry analysis, reading and speaking to contacts within the motorsports and automotive space to keep apprised of updated developments
Familiarizes him/herself with Client contacts (including their preferred communication methods and branding requirements)
Contacts Client(s) for approvals of estimates, concepts, copy, layouts, etc., as needed
Consistently initiates ways to add value to all Client-specified assignments
Proactively looks for ways to tailor his/her reporting and communication method to the Client's specific style and needs
Support client and technical team at-track and in office with PR and social media, working in close conjunction with client internal PR and social contacts
Develop and create content for client social media channels
Researches, gathers, assembles materials for tracking and reporting purposes
Communicates daily with senior account management personnel to provide support with ongoing projects as well as new/unexpected needs as they arise
Assists in preparation of contact reporting, forecasting and billing as directed by senior account management personnel
Utilizes Company's account management system to open jobs, develop alerts, manage project schedule and track project budget to assure on-time, on-budget delivery of quality work
Ensures work has been proofed as part of company proofreading team
Proactively identifies and provides solutions to problems
Begins to identify new business opportunities with existing Clients
Writes and distributes news releases
Prepares Creative Briefs and holds input meetings
Develop and manage social media content calendars to assure strategic alignment with client, trends, and current events
Manages projects from start to finish
Proofing of unfinished work to ensure accuracy before final production/presentation for Client
Updates Client(s)' websites, as needed
Attends Traffic/Production meetings and follows up on unfinished projects until completion
Prepares work orders and creative requests for new jobs
Serve as in-house resource for partner content suggestions, fact-checks, copy assists, and/or other support of client projects
Expedites Client contact reports as directed by senior account management personnel
Proactively updates and archives account files
Maintains individual Client notebooks and files (including samples, correspondence, competitor and industry information, etc.)
Assures timely delivery of Client correspondence, materials and invoices
Consistently enters daily record of billable time into the Company's accounting software
Assures that Letters of Estimates (LOEs) and Change Orders are completed for all billable jobs
Travel: 25 60%, including weekends and predominantly around the race schedule
Reporting to this Position:
While performing the duties of this position, the Associate is required to traverse race tracks, paddocks, and office environments which may require walking long distances, climbing stairs/hills; operate standard office equipment, carry laptop, cameras, phones, etc; talk and hear. The Associate must occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral, vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this position in-office the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, at-track the noise level is usually loud and the Associate is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
Bachelors degree preferred, or Associates degree required in related field
Strong writing skills and ability to follow AP Stylebook standards.
Knowledge of, and technical proficiency with, social media platforms and capabilities.
Experience with metrics tracking and reporting using native platforms and third-party tools.
Ability to stay current on social media best practices and platforms updates.
Excellent, pro-active written and verbal interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and other Associates of the organization.
Knowledge of, and ability to embrace, motorsports and automotive performance industries.
Keen attention to detail, particularly when working with numbers, metrics and analytics.
