Overall management of SEMA Garage Detroit services and facilities to assist members with new product development and integration. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with domestic/import OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to benefit SEMA member manufacturers and ensure flow of information essential to the industry’s accurate development of new and innovative products. Develop and maintain strong working relationship with tier level suppliers and testing facilities who can benefit SEMA member manufacturers.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
Hold primary P&L responsibility based on an annual budget developed in coordination with the Vice President of OEM & Product Development.
Manage the business activities of the SEMA Garage Detroit Product Development Center.
Lead efforts to connect more members to the benefits of SEMA technology transfer programs, as well as the product development facilities and services.
Develop strong working relationships with OEs for the benefit of gaining technical knowledge of complex vehicle technology and product development
Expand the vehicle technology transfer initiative to stimulate and assist new aftermarket product development by SEMA members.
Expand and promote SEMA’s vehicle measuring sessions for the benefit of SEMA’s manufacturing membership.
Create, promote and manage programs with major OEM’s enabling SEMA members to keep abreast of OEM product plans, technology developments and to network with relevant OEM personnel.
Oversee and publicize project measuring session opportunities.
Operate departmental programs/facilities within budget and standard business controls.
Evaluate operational efficiencies and opportunities, and offer necessary support, information, and resources to achieve optimum results.
Ensure the staff practices and SEMA Garage programs and services are of the highest caliber, reflect our standards and satisfy the member’s needs and expectations
Participate in the selection of talent, development of training programs, goal setting and performance management activities involving performance appraisals of direct reports.
Other duties may be assigned to accomplish company objectives.
Reports to Vice President of OEM & Product Development
Interfaces with all levels of staff.
Interfaces with SEMA councils, Association members and OEMs.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Five or more year’s executive management experience.
Thorough knowledge of the specialty aftermarket industry.
Management experience in business start-up, budget development, basic financials and accounting preferred.
Experience in dealing with companies in an association environment preferred.
Ability to develop and manage a budget and manage schedules and expenses accordingly
Knowledge of computer systems and software, Microsoft and Microsoft Excel.
Provide supportive clear direction with an ability to analyze and problem solve while remaining enthusiastic and engage people openly.
Able to be efficient and productive in a dynamic environment
Proven track record to collaborate cross-functionally, build positive relationships and become a trusted partner to relevant cross functional partners.
Sharp financial, P&L and budgetary accountability.
Strong leadership skills, able to both serve as a strong individual contributor and direct team activities.
Possess technical acumen, business expertise, and an ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.
Excellent oral and written communication and organization skills with experience in public speaking a plus.
Engineering and product development background a plus.
