The primary responsibility of the Product Engineer is to develop automotive suspension products in accordance with company and customer requirements.
The product engineer will lead the development process for new products based on the goals and parameters defined by the R&D Manager, while working with a cross-functional team through all stages of a project including design, prototyping, testing, and validation.
Responsibilitiesinclude but not limited to:
Takes ownership of assigned development projects, seeing them through from start to finish • Designs product in accordance with company specifications, customer/market requirements, and specific, identified needs – while providing manufacturable design solutions
Develops specific design goals through research and measurement of project vehicles utilizing various approaches including 3D scanning, software-based analysis, real-world testing, etc. Throughout the development process - analyzes problems and engineers / implements solutions that meet project requirements, reporting any obstacles or issues to the R&D Manager • Works with R&D team members to construct and evaluate first prototypes and subsequent validation fitments, responding accordingly to any issues encountered
Provides design support for welding jigs, manufacturing fixtures, check gauges, etc. where required
Develops testing equipment and procedures needed to verify product quality
Creates and maintains all project / product related documentation – including bill of materials, manufacturing and quality control plans, testing results, etc.
Works with external suppliers to develop new products when necessary, overseeing the process through to first article approvals
Operates within a team environment, providing input and design support to other team members as well as participating in design reviews across the department • Maintains product print database accuracy for any assigned products
Creates updated 3D models and manufacturing drawings for existing product when required
Supports technical specialist with the creation of product instructions by providing drawings, images, design information, etc.
Oversees thorough implementation of design revisions when necessary
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
5 or more years’ experience in the area of development / design or product engineering
Mastery of SolidWorks or similar CAD/modeling software, Microsoft Office Suite, and various other applications involved in development and design
Working knowledge of 3D scanning/modeling and associated software
Familiarity with automotive suspension systems is a plus
Ability to work independently and in group settings; multi-tasker
Must be highly organized, creative, independent, self-motivated, enthusiastic, dependable, detail-oriented, and flexible in scheduling and prioritization
