The primary responsibility of the Product Engineer is to develop automotive suspension products in accordance with company and customer requirements while supporting Management, Manufacturing, Sales, and Purchasing in engineering related issues.
The product engineer is also responsible for product design within the company’s engineering department by leading the design process and working with cross functional teams from concept through design completion and validation; and reporting all program related issues and updates to the Engineering Project Manager.
Designs product in accordance with company specifications, customer/market requirements providing manufactural design solutions
Generates and maintains associated manufacturing and quality control documentation for new and existing products
Analyzes specific development problems and engineers and implements solutions that meet product/project requirements
Provides design support for welding jigs, manufacturing fixtures and check gauges
Works with R&D Technicians and Prototype Machinist to construct first article, and subsequent validation fitments
Establishes test procedures for quality assurance of finished product
Works with external suppliers to specify purchased product requirements and to resolve any product issues
Works with external packaging suppliers to design custom packaging when necessary
Creates and maintains product bill of materials, and specifies initial sourcing options for purchased components
Operates in a team environment, providing input and design solutions as well as participating in design reviews across the department
Maintains ERP system and product print database accuracy for assigned products
Provide design support for the development of 3D models and manufacturing drawings for new and old products
Responsible for entire development phase of products – initial product scope and all requirements through first article shipped.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred
5 or more years’ experience in the area of development / design or product engineering
Mastery of SolidWorks or similar CAD/modeling software, Microsoft Office Suite, and various other computer programs involved in development and design
Working knowledge of 3D scanning/modeling and associated software
Ability to work independently and in group settings; multi-tasker
Must be highly organized, creative, independent, self?motivated, enthusiastic, dependable, detail?oriented, and flexible in scheduling and prioritization
