The Director is responsible for overseeing general corporate accounting, finance and financial reporting functions for an established Internet/catalog retailer including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and related activities. He or she is responsible for implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies and US GAAP.
Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures.
Protects assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls.
Provides status of financial condition of the company by collecting, interpreting and reporting key financial data to internal and external stakeholders.
Supervises the completion of Federal and State tax reporting requirements (including income, property, sales and use, payroll and other local taxes), insurance reports and other reports required by government regulation.
Manages external relationships with accountants, bankers, insurance brokers, financial advisors and other professional service providers.
Arranges for audits as required and appropriate.
Manages the budgeting and long-term financial planning processes and controls expenses effectively.
Hires, trains, develops and appraises staff effectively. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Consults with Human Resources as appropriate.
Generates ad hoc reporting and financial analyses as required by executive team.
Keeps up-to-date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
Undergraduate Degree in accounting, business, or related field required
CPA or MBA preferred
Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in managing an accounting function in a medium or large-size company.
Excellent communication and leadership skills are required
Experience in managing Human Resources and/or Information Technology activities a strong plus
