The Director of Purchasing is responsible for overseeing the entire Purchasing department, making sure adequate stock is maintained to achieve predetermined service levels while not being overstocked. Ensures all products are accurately promoted through both web and print media. Provide feedback to the Purchasing Associates and Supervisor. The Director of Purchasing is responsible for adding products to our offering and assisting the manufacturing facility to determine new products to make.
To meet business and profitability growth objectives, participate in creating and administering company and departmental policies. Develop and implement long range goals and objectives. Manage interactions between the company and vendors by building and maintaining relationships not only with current, but also potential vendors by communicating company needs and resolving issues that may arise. This would also include issuing requests for quotes to vendors as necessary.
Review all purchase orders of high dollar value and either approve or deny.
Research existing and new vendors to identify products offered by these vendors that could be purchased and then offered to Corvette America or Mustang America’s customers. When products are purchased, they are added to the AS400 system, the company website and communicated to the Sales department they are now available for sale.
Take samples from different suppliers of the items the company purchases, including raw materials for production and compare prices, minimum order quantities, etc. Encourage departments using the raw material to provide input regarding the quality of the raw material.
Continuously compare cost of items Corvette America purchases to ensure the company is purchasing the items at the lowest totalcost possible, while maintaining quality targets.
Compare list and wholesale pricing with that of competitors on new or high-profile items making changes as needed to be competitive within the market.
Review the “Suggested Order Report” on a regular basis to ensure the proper items are being purchased, inventory is maintained at a reasonable level, and evaluate movement of products.
Review raw material ordering suggestions from the XA system making revisions as needed. Forward orders to the Purchasing Supervisor so purchase orders can be completed and follow through with the ordering process.
Participate in yearend procedures for manufactured products costing.
Issue purchase orders for commissioned products ensuring all requirements are included on the purchase order.
Coordinate the inspection of preproduction samples of products and test fit samples if necessary. Communicate findings to vendors making sure needed adjustments are made.
Assure new products are:
Given a part number
Inspected and packaged correctly
Communicated to sales and dealers
Photographed and placed on company website
Included in appropriate email blasts and other promotions, including catalogs
Investigate the applicability of recommended new equipment and oversee the purchase of the equipment.
Assist in catalog prep work, proof and approve purchasing invoices for payment.
Participate in weekly Material Review Board meetings to discuss potential problems with products and raw material, and then determine resolution.
Coordinate purchase & shipment of products from offshore suppliers. Including coordinating wire transfers with Finance.
Provide GM weekly updates regarding department activities and achievements.
Determine business and department KPI’s and measure according.
Negotiate and monitor Freight (parcel and LTL) and Catalog printing contracts.
Provide Marketing/Advertising with customer lists for mailing purposes.
Participate in weekly Manager’s meeting to assist in company communication and strategy.
Post and monitor eBay ads for selling and generating enthusiasm for new products as well as clearance and liquidation items.
Provide assistance to RPUI Group Operations VP and sister companies with Purchasing, Inventory Analysis, & Inventory Control.
Achieve annual target cost savings goal set by General Manager and CFO.
